Many think that braces are just for children and teens. However, adults are the majority of people who receive braces each year. There are many different reasons as to why adults seek braces- for some, it’s the first time. If you're an adult and are looking to receive orthodontic treatment, our doctors can help you! No matter at what stage you are in your life, Cavalancia Orthodontics provides high-quality service to anyone who needs orthodontic care.

Qualifications for Adult Braces

Most adults get referred to orthodontics by their dentist. By setting up a consultation, your orthodontist will be able to tell you what type of braces you need and how long your treatment plan will be. For some adults, it can be the first time getting braces. For others, it might be their second time from childhood. The main difference between child and adult orthodontics is that adult teeth and jaws have stopped growing, which requires a different approach to braces. Either way, it’s important to note that you go see your dentist first to make sure that you are healthy and that there are no other ailments that need to be treated first. At the end of the day, there is no age limit to when someone can get braces.

Types of Braces for Adults

Depending on what type of problems you want fixing, and what your lifestyle is like, there are multiple types of braces that adults can choose from. If you qualify, aligners may be a great option. However, there may be other options that you never knew existed.

  • Metal Braces- These are the most common type of braces. This can be a great option if you want the most effective results. They may also be a more affordable and accessible option for many. Traditional metal braces straighten your teeth using high-quality stainless steel or titanium brackets and wires.
  • Aligner treatment- Aligners are thin, clear trays made to fit your teeth. Unlike metal braces, patients appreciate that aligners are removable. It’s almost like wearing a retainer but is worn every day except for eating, drinking, and brushing/flossing. A very popular option for many who don’t want the look of braces and want something more comfortable. However, it does require discipline because it must be worn as much as possible and that you keep an eye on them when out and about (so you don’t lose your trays).
  • Ceramic Braces- This option uses ceramic bonding instead of metal. They work like traditional braces, but the appearance appears more natural and is the same color as your teeth, making it less noticeable.
